Cabin- Firmness in Design

Firmness in Design- Natural breeze throughout the building

Open space and operable windows at either side and end of the building allows continuous  cross ventilation through the building. Wind can be channelled through the space increasing air flow in the building.

Firmness in Design- Orientation

Orientation on site allows good surrounding coverage from trees to provide shadings.

Firmness in Design: Structural Simplicity

The structural set out allows a clear circulation throughout the building as well as providing unobstructed view to the landscape surrounding.

The materials I have selected to build my cabin are predominantly timber. This natural material runs throughout the cabin on the floor, walls, frames, doors and bench tops. The other dominant material used is glass. By using glass, I can exploit the Northern river views. Furthermore I have also placed trees around my cabin in order to help reduce the harsh sun that may hit the western walls during summer. Also, by reducing the amount of windows on the western wall, I can keep the cool air in and the hot air out, but at the same time, keep ventilation throughout the cabin.
